Flashback Friday

Whilst i’m at my parents house this weekend and have been treated to home-cooked food and putting the heating on without feeling guilty, it also means I’m forced to use a computer which still recognizes floppy disks as a handy storage device. Whilst that comes with it’s downsides, I’ve also been able to delve into the archives and take a glance at some of my first attempts at writing.

As a child I had an active imagination, I loved reading and playing with my imaginary friend Batty the bat – so the Christmas of 1999 when we got our first computer was a revelation to me. Suddenly I had a way of accessing other worlds through a plugged in box no bigger than my TV. Although we had to share computer privileges – strictly one hour each as long as my mother wasn’t on the phone, I found Lara Croft, Theme Hospital and the magic of word processor.

Although I dabbled in my fair share of word art and fancy borders like everyone else who was lucky enough to have Windows 1998, I also started to write my own newspaper articles – with me as the subject:-

HELEN STRIKES AGAIN

——————————–
THE ATHLETIC HELEN ADELE FISHER BROKE THE WORLD RECORD AT THE OLYMPICS TODAY IN STANLEY PARK BLACKPOOL.
SHE IS THE FASTEST WOMAN OF ALL TIME.10.3 SECONDS.
THE BEST BRITISH ATHLETE OF ALL TIME.
EVERYONE WILL REMEMBER THE DATE 20.6.2000 HER MOTHER WAS IN TEARS AT THIS SENSATION.

STORY BY HERSELF.

Evidently I had high hopes for my future as an Olympic runner and hot shot journalist, and the use of caps lock to illustrate my passion is nothing short of brilliant. I didn’t stop there though, as a ten year old I was a busy gal and also the newest member of S Club 7:-

14 years later and I’m still writing about myself: I might have lost all hope of becoming an athlete or singer but my unashamed self-promotion will never die.

    • Im glad you liked it!

It’s strange looking at how far technology has come when at the time we thought floppy disks and a dial up connection were revolutionary!
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thought that Batty was the perfect name for a Bat. 🙂

Hope you have a great day too!
